Adventures and misadventures at the ALC

We had an interesting week at the ALC
Monday a speaker visited our school. A couple of English classes are reading "Downriver," a novel about a group of teenagers who go down the Colorado River at flood stage. The visitor is a professional white water rafter. He spoke to the whole student body for about three hours. I was so proud of the way our students acted. The man had slides and spoke slowly, the projection screen was on the small side, and they could have chosen to let those things get in the way of enjoying the presentation, but they didn't. For almost three hours they sat and watched the slides of a group of six as they progressed down the Colorado River.

Sometime in the third hour one student had a medical emergency and we had a to have an ambulance come. The speaker stopped the presentation for a while, but once everything was under control finished up and the kids were dismissed to return to classes. They all behaved so maturely. I was proud of the actions of everyone of them.

The student who had the medical emergency will be okay too.
